The CPSC (US Consumer Product Safety Commission, has found that the number of roller skating accidents is somewhere in the region of 50,000 incidents each year.  These accidents range from minor cuts, sprains and bruises, to broken bones and other more severe injuries. Keep in mind that this refers to roller skating both indoors at your local roller skating rink and roller skating outdoors. It is important that safety regulations and guidelines be followed while skating whether indoors or outdoors. As we hunker down for winter, we thought it would be a good idea to remind skaters of a few ways to stay safe while skating at Roller Kingdom in Tyngsboro and Hudson.

Roller Skaters Safety Information

Roller skaters hold a certain level of responsibility for their own safety when skating and the safety of those around them.  Therefore, they should always follow the posted warning signs and avoid skating in a manner or at a speed that could cause injury or damage to themselves, other skaters, or the actual skating rink. 

Maintaining Roller Skates

Part of skating safely includes not only keeping responsibility in mind as previously mentioned, but also using proper equipment. At Roller Kingdom, we are proud to offer the use of rental skates in our facility. These skates are regularly maintained with our Pro Shop staff. We encourage our skaters to make sure their skates are in proper and safe working order when they choose to bring their own. Our staff can give your skates a good check up, and we can even show you a few of our newer roller skating styles and models if you are interested in upgrading. Don’t forget that our skate sale is going on now, and a purchase of new skates equals free skating!

In November we added a morning session to the calendars for both the Tyngsboro and Hudson Roller Kingdom locations. We’re excited because this is a great opportunity for you to take care of gaining new skating skills and to take advantage of our Spectacular Savings Session for our birthday parties!

Skating Skills

Saturday mornings are the perfect time to drop in and polish up your skating skills. Our doors open at 10am, and the session goes til noon. Whether you are staying after from Saturday morning lessons (offered from 9:15-9:45am at Hudson and from 9:30-10:00am at Tyngsboro), or if you want to get your day started with some music and skating, then Saturday mornings can’t be beat! With two hours of skating done before noon you will have had time to build your confidence as a newbie skater, or to become an expert in a new skill that you are working on. Whether you are learning forward, backward, crossovers, turning, or simply just want to balance and stand at the same time, Saturday mornings are great!

Spectacular Savings Sessions

Everyone knows that birthday parties are the best at Roller Kingdom. With skating, video games, and laser tag there is plenty for your party goers to do. On Saturday mornings, we offer $2 off the fee for each guest when you book a Deluxe Party or Super Deluxe Party! This savings also applies to Friday reservations from 4-6:30pm at the Tyngsboro and Hudson rinks and Wednesday bookings from 6-9pm in Tyngsboro. At Roller Kingdom, we won’t make you wake up crazy early for our Black Friday Skate. Instead, you can sleep in, and then come skate off the turkey and mashed potatoes you ate the day before!

If you really are in the mood to shop, then we think we’ve got one of the best deals that you can get. The bonus is that you don’t have to wait for Black Friday to get here! The holidays are on the horizon, and while that may excite many with thoughts of Christmas trees, holiday decorations, and merry memories, it may have others dreading the holiday office party. With a live DJ working the music, your crew will not have to worry about music that does not set the mood. Potlucks can be fun and adventurous, but why ask your employees to cook? And let’s admit it, with a potluck the balance is always off. Roller Skating has been a favorite childhood pastime for years. In fact, the first roller skate was patented in France in 1819. The skates didn’t look much like the skates kids use today. Their design was very basic and the skates were only able to move forward. Turning was also very difficult. Skates have come a long way since then, but it’s fun to revisit the past with a decades themed party!

Roller skating is a wonderful past time. It is exhilarating to skate down around the rink and gain speed. Roller skating is also a great way to increase your physical activity and benefit your cardiovascular and muscular health. In order to keep roller skating, you need to make sure that you prioritize taking care of your skates. Here are three tips for keeping your roller skates problem free.

Skate Bearings

The bearings of your roller skates are made of metal. Like any other metal object, your bearings need to be kept free of rust and corrosion. The best way to do this is to keep your bearings clean and dry. After you have spent a lot of time skating carefully remove and inspect your bearings. Clean any grime or accumulated rust with rubbing alcohol. Do not use dish washing soap to clean your bearings; this leaves a film that makes it difficult for the bearings to function normally.

Stinky Skates

If you enjoy roller skating frequently, you may find that your skates begin to build up odor from your sweat. In order to manage the odor, you should pay particular attention to the insole of the boot. Roller skates can be aired out in sunlight just like ice skates; make certain that you leave the boot unlaced in order to let the sunlight and clean air carry the foul odor away. You can also clean the insole of your boot with a baking soda mixture.

Smooth Ride

Skating on loose wheels can be hazardous because they take away from your ability to control your momentum and direction. Therefore it is important to adjust and tighten your wheel nuts every couple of weeks. The wheel nuts keep the wheels of your skates in place. Tighten your wheel nuts so that the wheels roll smoothly and not in a wild or restricted manner.

Owning a pair of roller skates is an investment, and it is important to be aware of the condition of your roller skates. It is a spooktacular time of year! At Roller Kingdom, we’ll be welcoming all goblins, ghosts, and ghouls to join us for our Halloween Parties. Teen Halloween Party

If you are in your teen years, then we’ve got a party just for you! Join us at Hudson Roller Kingdom from 7-10pm on the 24th of Oct. or at the Tyngsboro Roller Kingdom from 7-11pm also on the 24th. Costumes are not required, but if you participate in our contest you will have the chance to win a free year of skating at Roller Kingdom and a pair of brand new roller skates! This is up to a $300 value!

Kids Halloween Party

We welcome those younger than teens and their adults to join us for a Halloween Party on Sunday Oct. 26th from 1pm-5pm at both locations. We’ve got the same great first prize available at our kids costume party! Even though costumes are optional, you won’t want to miss the opportunity to win the grand prize!

In case you didn’t already know, October is National Roller Skating Month! This makes us really excited about skating (as if we weren’t already!), and we wanted to challenge you to learn something new!

At Roller Kingdom, we believe that there is always something to learn. Perhaps one of our favorite moments in proving this was when the New Hampshire Chronicle came out to check out what we’ve been up to!

We’ve got plenty of lesson opportunities for learners and skaters of all ages. Check out the great opportunities at both the Hudson Roller Kingdom and at the Tyngsboro Roller Kingdom. Don’t forget that skating is no longer just skating! Part of the challenge may involve a different skating style!

Artistic Skating

If you’ve ever enjoyed watching Olympic Figure Skating, then consider trying your hand (or your feet) at artistic skating! Both of our rinks have an involvement in artistic skate, and our clubs have even made it to the nationals!

Jam Skating

If you love to get your jam on with music, then try getting your jam on with skates. Some compare this to breakdancing on skates. Whatever you see it as, it is definitely a unique combination of breakdancing, hip hop, skating, and dancing. Check out the moves of our local jam skaters here:

National Roller Skating Month was started in 1983 to promote the fun and fitness associated with roller skating. This month, to help promote fun and fitness, we’ve got a few fun things planned!

Ninja Turtle Skate

School will be out on Columbus Day, but you can come here to hang with your friends and a TMNT! We’ll have Sewer Juice and other fun filled activities to celebrate this day!

Halloween Parties

Join us for one of our Halloween Costume Parties! Teens are welcome to come out on Friday, October 24th and the younger ones are welcome to join us on Sunday, October 26th. Come dressed in your most creative Halloween costume because we’ve got some amazing prizes for you! Third place winners will walk away with a pair of skates (valued up to $150), second place will walk away with a year of free skating passes, and first place will hit the jackpot with a year of free skating passes and a choice of free skates (up to $300 value)!

Of course throughout the month we will be hosting our regular sessions and events in Tyngsboro and Hudson.
