Welcome to 2015! We hope that 2014 was full of great memories for you and your families. As our staff turned the page to open a new year, many of us worked on New Year’s resolutions or New Year’s goals!

Whether you take New Year’s resolutions or goals seriously or not, we know that some of the most common New Year’s resolutions out there involve eating better, exercising more, and losing weight. We’re here to help you with those goals in the start of 2015 at Roller Kingdom! 

Get in Shape with Skating!

Did you know that roller skating is a great way to get in shape? Not only does it reduce stress on your joints, but you also burn a ton of calories while having fun! Here are some details with more information:

• Low-impact – Unlike other forms of exercise such as running that strain and damage knees and joints, roller skating is low-impact and joint-friendly. The fluid movements as you roller skate mimic those of dancing or running, but are thankfully free of impacts that can damage joints.
• Whole-body workout – The strength and balance required for roller skating works your arms, legs, core, and cardiovascular system. Your legs and glute muscles receive the most benefits from skating, as does your core as you push through movements and maintain balance. Strong legs, improved coordination, and balance are beneficial for all ages.
• Burn calories – Enjoy roller skating with your children and grandchildren and burn as many calories as other aerobic workouts. What makes skating better than traditional aerobic exercises is that you’re doing it with family while listening to great, upbeat music, making memories, and having fun.

We mean the things that can take all sorts of time and planning if you were to host a birthday party at home. Entertainment

At Roller Kingdom you get to choose the entertainment options. Of course there is roller skating, but did you know you can add the option for your party guests to join in a game of laser tag? You can! Participants have loads of fun as they spend time skating and dodging the enemy in laser tag!

One of the biggest headaches we’ve ever experienced involved preparing and cooking food for a birthday party at home. That is why we love to offer food as a part of the party package at Roller Kingdom. It streamlines the process and makes it super easy for parents. You won’t have to spend the time shopping for ingredients, cooking all of the food, or even worry about cleaning up the mess! At Roller Kingdom your birthday guests will chow down on pizza or hot dogs and wash it down with Pepsi products.

Face Painting

On Monday, December 29, we will have face painting available at both locations for free. Come on out, be creative and have fun with face painting. You can be anything you want to be with the help of our skilled face painting artists!

Dollar Night is on Tuesday, December 30th

Since we are celebrating the New Year‘s a little early on the 31st, we wanted to make sure you knew that dollar night will not be taking place that night. Instead, we’ll be hosting dollar night at Tyngsboro on the 30th. Please note that there is no dollar night on the night of Christmas Eve.

Gift Certificates

We are now offering gift certificates for sale on our website. If you are from out of town, but want to purchase something that you know that skater in your life will use, then don’t delay! You can have it mailed directly to their house. Of course, you don’t have to live out of town to purchase a gift card for Roller Kingdom!

Join us for a daytime New Year’s Eve Party at Roller Kingdom! It does not matter whether or not you’ll be in Hudson or Tyngsboro, because we’ll be counting down to New Year’s at both Roller Kingdom locations!

We realize that midnight is simply too late for some. Whether you have young ones that won’t be able to stay up late, or you have to get your sleep to work the next day, we are happy to offer our daytime countdown! After all, it is still New Year’s Eve no matter what time of day, and everyone should have a little fun as they bid farewell to 2014 and say hello to 2015.

Even though we’ll be counting down to 3pm for our early New Year’s celebration, the people in Dubai will be welcoming the new year ahead of us as they are in a completely different part of the world and a different time zone. If they can celebrate, we should celebrate as well! Our final countdown to the early new year will be accompanied by noisemakers, party hats, and leis!

We know that the kids are bursting with energy with the anticipation for Christmas. After all, there is something else that comes with Christmas. What is this other thing? Most school age children find that they have no school during the days leading up to Christmas and New Year’s. The question for some families becomes, What do we do to avoid the Christmas break boredom at home?

We’ve got the answer for you with Roller Kingdom’s Vacation Skate sessions. Join us and share the merry and joy of the season through roller skating! Beginning on Dec. 26 we will be adding in a few extra hours and sessions for your convenience. Join your friends and family and celebrate the day after Christmas with our first extra skating session. We’ll be open from 1-5pm at both rinks and then again for our 7pm session. Please note that we will not be hosting our Friday Supper Skate on the 26th as we’ll have extended hours!

The CPSC (US Consumer Product Safety Commission, has found that the number of roller skating accidents is somewhere in the region of 50,000 incidents each year.  These accidents range from minor cuts, sprains and bruises, to broken bones and other more severe injuries. Keep in mind that this refers to roller skating both indoors at your local roller skating rink and roller skating outdoors. It is important that safety regulations and guidelines be followed while skating whether indoors or outdoors. As we hunker down for winter, we thought it would be a good idea to remind skaters of a few ways to stay safe while skating at Roller Kingdom in Tyngsboro and Hudson.

Roller Skaters Safety Information

Roller skaters hold a certain level of responsibility for their own safety when skating and the safety of those around them.  Therefore, they should always follow the posted warning signs and avoid skating in a manner or at a speed that could cause injury or damage to themselves, other skaters, or the actual skating rink. 

Maintaining Roller Skates

Part of skating safely includes not only keeping responsibility in mind as previously mentioned, but also using proper equipment. At Roller Kingdom, we are proud to offer the use of rental skates in our facility. These skates are regularly maintained with our Pro Shop staff. We encourage our skaters to make sure their skates are in proper and safe working order when they choose to bring their own. Our staff can give your skates a good check up, and we can even show you a few of our newer roller skating styles and models if you are interested in upgrading. Don’t forget that our skate sale is going on now, and a purchase of new skates equals free skating!

In November we added a morning session to the calendars for both the Tyngsboro and Hudson Roller Kingdom locations. We’re excited because this is a great opportunity for you to take care of gaining new skating skills and to take advantage of our Spectacular Savings Session for our birthday parties!

Skating Skills

Saturday mornings are the perfect time to drop in and polish up your skating skills. Our doors open at 10am, and the session goes til noon. Whether you are staying after from Saturday morning lessons (offered from 9:15-9:45am at Hudson and from 9:30-10:00am at Tyngsboro), or if you want to get your day started with some music and skating, then Saturday mornings can’t be beat! With two hours of skating done before noon you will have had time to build your confidence as a newbie skater, or to become an expert in a new skill that you are working on. Whether you are learning forward, backward, crossovers, turning, or simply just want to balance and stand at the same time, Saturday mornings are great!

Spectacular Savings Sessions

Everyone knows that birthday parties are the best at Roller Kingdom. With skating, video games, and laser tag there is plenty for your party goers to do. On Saturday mornings, we offer $2 off the fee for each guest when you book a Deluxe Party or Super Deluxe Party! This savings also applies to Friday reservations from 4-6:30pm at the Tyngsboro and Hudson rinks and Wednesday bookings from 6-9pm in Tyngsboro. Black Friday has quite a history, and it seems to have crept earlier and earlier into the pre-dawn hours each year. At Roller Kingdom, we won’t make you wake up crazy early for our Black Friday Skate. Instead, you can sleep in, and then come skate off the turkey and mashed potatoes you ate the day before!

If you really are in the mood to shop, then we think we’ve got one of the best deals that you can get. The bonus is that you don’t have to wait for Black Friday to get here! The holidays are on the horizon, and while that may excite many with thoughts of Christmas trees, holiday decorations, and merry memories, it may have others dreading the holiday office party. While many companies strive to do something special for their employees over the holidays, there are of course goofs that take place. At Roller Kingdom, we are proud to offer our 25,000+ square foot facilities to help you avoid disastrous work parties.

Merry Music

With a live DJ working the music, your crew will not have to worry about music that does not set the mood. Our DJ can get the crowd involved on those skates (think Hokey Pokey and the Chicken Dance) or get people skating with Christmas classics. Whatever your music needs are, we will accomodate for your customized private party. We should also mention that this could be a fun opportunity for karaoke!

Say No to Potluck

Potlucks can be fun and adventurous, but why ask your employees to cook? And let’s admit it, with a potluck the balance is always off. Either there are too many salads and not enough main dishes, or the luck of the potluck wasn’t so great as nothing is appetizing. Avoid these unappetizing situations and take advantage of our snack bar options. Your employees will gladly say no to the cold cuts and yes to the pizza, nachos, slushies, and fried dough. We also assist with catering other menus as well.

Roller Skating has been a favorite childhood pastime for years. In fact, the first roller skate was patented in France in 1819. The skates didn’t look much like the skates kids use today. Their design was very basic and the skates were only able to move forward. Turning was also very difficult. Skates have come a long way since then, but it’s fun to revisit the past with a decades themed party!

The styles of skates and music that’s played may have changed, but the sport has changed little. Because of that, big kids “at heart” are glad when their child wants a roller skating party. It means a chance to lace up some skates and boogie down like a kid again.
